I have just returned from a bike ride to Great Bentley, the church was first commenced in 1088 & the doorways (Norman) are the most perfect I have seen, primitive they may be but they represent a time that is gone, in the twilight we entered the old church, climbed the ancient tower & watched the setting sun. The children were playing on the village common just as they played centuries ago & one feels that touch of quiet & peace which only these scenes can produce. Stretched out before us lies the tranquil landscape over which the suns last rays are throwing that mystic quiet whilst silhouetted against the sky is the tower of Brightlingsea church a picture to stir the soul of the artist.
I sent all my negatives to Colchester to be printed about 100 of them, they are a pretty good record of my journeyings so far. There is nothing very striking but they will help you to see things as I have seen them. Florrie ust write & tell me how many photos she has that I have taken from time to time. I guess there must be many hundreds.
