Dear Stan,
A few days ago I recd. your long letter in reply to my P.C. & I can tell you I was mighty pleased to get it - more especially to know you were still alright. - I must congratulate you on the second pip - Guess it will be 3 soon!
Lieut Matters - brother of Stewart Matters - who is with 27th went through the 20th Sept. stunt alright but was wounded a few days after when our chaps were holding the line.
The same day as your last letter arrived, one dated 19th Sept. arrived. It had been to the Batt. & was redirected. Contained Harry Symond's letter to you. My wound is practically healed now & I am marked for transfer to Dartford - a large Austn. Hosp near London. Anyway I hope I am in England for Xmas. I have full power in my right arm below the elbow but none above that point - I write with my right hand hanging in a sling. I can get out onto the Downs & into the city now - If the weather were only a little warmer it would be "tres bon".
