"Essai de maury", they should fill in my time for the next month or so. My pillow used to be a cover for something or other in a cathedral ancient & famous its jolly hard luck but its very comfortable.

Today I went into a cathedral old Fritz has knocked the roof about but the strange part is that the alters remain intact the falling debris has not knocked them hardly at all, a popular stunt is to have round the walls little plaster casts illustrating the life of Jesus Christ, they take a prominent place on the main columns in the outside walls, these in this particular cathedral are uninjured, amidst all the wreckage & desolation they stand out sharp & clear, it seems almost symbolical. The plaster alters are usually fine bits of work & attract the eye, not being R.C. I can hardly understand
