of course paraded me to the Major who must stick up for military authority & commanded me to apologise which necessarily I must obey, I did too in this wise, "In diffidence to the command of the Major I apologise" which is more or less a cynicism look at it whichever way you please, actually it does a lot of good it lets the Major know that you can hold up your own end of the stick & at the same time makes the other fellow more careful, it does him no good to have to parade a chap to maintain his authority.
Going to to school tomorrow for instruction in gas,don't care for it much but of course it is essential. They had to march thro 3 miles of it during the last stunt - awful task in these helmets - one sniff & you're "out" to it
