My dear Mother Father & Sister

The first thought which comes seems to confirm the idea that having nothing to do naturally there is little to write about, to you this announcement will bring whips of joy, to me it means that the period is dreary & monotonous, a 6" gun is busy justifying its existance a few yds away & incidentally raining dirt thro the roof of my dug out.

Got up about 10 am breakfasted on Quaker oats tea, bacon, toast jam, bread & butter, at 8.30 am. & expect that camoflaged bully beef will be served up for lunch, last night for dinner we had Jam tart, Beef, cabbages, potatoes, tea, possibly I ought to add I had two helpings of Jam tart, the flour was salvaged from a shelled flour mill a couple of miles nearer the lines, nice white flour it is too.  A few days ago I found some flour under the collapsed roof of that mill & was able to send some down to my own company.  We quite enjoy a foray of this nature, you have to be pretty expert at the game to find anything particularly if there are any Aussies occupied in similar pursuits.

Have just completed a 4 months diary & look forward to leave to get rid of it.
