& her recommendation to "marry & settle down after the war" goodness wouldn't that be an awful prospect. I'm quite content to have everything so that I can pack it under my hat, even this old war is becoming dull, its lasting too long & is not consistant with my nature, to "settle down" is foreign to me couldn't do it if I tried. I teased Cousin Alice a whole heap told her the girls wouldn't have me which is literally true & incidentally says a whole heap for their good taste. It is becoming increasingly difficult to reply to all my letters. I am still in the lines but will be going right back in a few days, expect to see my little French sweetheart whilst back, it will be great sport to tease her again.

A heavy mist has fallen outside it was impossible to go up the trench so for the first time for 10 or 12 nights I am home, expect my corporal to come in any moment to report progress. We are having a most excellent winter except for a few days about Xmas, there has been no frost or snow.

With love to all

Malcolm
