My dear Florrie
Just a couple of lines, I am enclosing for you a note 25 centimes (2½d.) the smallest note issued in France, also an interpreters badge given to me for you by our French Interpreter, it is jolly interesting, the bit of purple - badge - is our colour patch & it was carried in my pocket during the last 3 battles.
The note for 1 mark & also the German money was taken from a prisoner during the stunt by the N.Z.s & it belonged to the bosch with the skull & cross bones on his hat - they are pretty tame when taken prisoner & give everything they possess.
We are still in rest doing next to nothing, today I had a trip in the rain to a village close handy to see about the erection of some stables, they put us in jobs like this to keep us moving, I am rather glad for its heaps better than drill - it would be difficult to drill men with whom you have faced the same dangers, they become mates & chums, you know.
Yesterday I received a nice letter frrom May Hamilton, she said you had sent my diary down to her, I'm rather glad my next edition will be more interesting, it would be nice if I could get my present lot over to you. Received a letter from Alice Nappy, very kind of her to write, really I find it difficult to keep up a correspondence with all those who write.
I have posted a parcel to you
