We are still working on a rest camp. My job is to lay a long pipe line for water supply. It [?] rains a good deal making outside work anything but pleasant, notwithstanding it would do me [indecipherable] duration. Dame Rumour has it that within a few days we will be cruising back to the lines [indecipherable] bon" this weather, "my oath" I'll bet its muddy & cold.
We have stoves in various huts about the camp, I prefer not to have one in mine [indecipherable] smoke too much, the one in the mess smoked us out tonight, its certainly not good to sleep near them. Those at Park House earlier this year gave us a bad time - its better to go to bed & sleep the clock round. I can manage this fine, do most of my writing whilst in bed.
Mother's Balaclava is most excellent - will come in useful up the lines, the best of these caps is that they can be worn under the tin hat, fortunately I am well supplied in woollens, in clothes I have two or three of everything, good thing too for a trip to the lines usually includes a soaking. Convey to my Mother my heartiest good wishes for her birthday.
With love to all
Malcolm
