My dear Florrie
Just a few lines, we had another battle a few days ago on the 13th, it was a lively time. I had to go up a few lines after the stunt started & things were busy, old Fritz was very annoyed & lobbed his "foundries" all over the show concentrating on definite areas & suddenly shifting to another, quite exciting particularly if you happened to be in it, we were too & it was a case of crouching in shell holes untill he was pleased to move on. I don't mind being in a shell hole when I have a pipe & some decent tobacco but when you folks don't send any its darned miserable. I haven't had a good smoke for weeks. If you send parcels send tobacco, its absolutely essential & greases the wheels & makes it heaps easier to foot it thro the mud, of course we get issue tobacco & cigarettes but they're worse than "Fritzies Mustard Gas" straight "dinkum".
By the time you get this letter it will be Xmas & summer with you. I wouldn't mind if this business were squared up & we could come home too. Gee! there'll be some bonnie yarns this time. Did you get my diary. I will be interested & pleased to hear what you think of it, the next edition will be more interesting there'll be something real in it.
