FLORRIE
This morning (& indeed all day) I was awakened by a heavy bombardment the first thing which impressed me was that the rumble had a definite musical note & cogitating thereon my thoughts soon wobbled to a poem I heard a few days ago used in dirision against pacifists some years ago -
"Peace? Peace? you miserable preachers;
The canon (two n's) are Gods teachers,
When times are ripe for war."
This lot has some ring about it & I wish I knew the use of it. It is really a remarkable group of words but I would rather meditate on Kiplings "Recessional",
The tumult & the shouting dies -
The Captains & the kings depart -
Still stand thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble & a contrite heart.
This is far grander & noble by miles.

My 12 months here will be completed with the close of this month. I am just awaiting the limber to take me back to the lines - enclosed two Chinus coins for you.
With lots of good wishes
Malcolm
