Dear Florrie
A couple of my old chaps have been wounded. I saw one Vincent a couple of moments ago, he got a machine gun bullet thro the arm. The other chap is Candy they were quite happy. Last night was the night, I had surveyed the track the night before by which our men had to go to the point of assembly, & I had watched the men massing behind the lines, it is inspiring.
This morning I watched the wounded coming in - awful. I went to the A.M.C. to see my men & never will the impression fade from my mind, just a confused flow of wounded, Australian & German, on some faces death had already laid its mark, others flushed
