My dear Florrie

This is a different place to the last but still from a battlefield one of the most famous along the whole front, round it lies guns upon guns, piles & piles of them ready for a stunt which will shake this old world of ours.

Saw a wounded tank today, had a ride in it too, a shell had hit it on the nose but it still kept going.

Last night I spent out in the battlefield on a reconnaisance of a track which will be used for the attack.  Fritz was not too pleasant & a sniper paid us constant attention, a dud shell lobbed into the next shell hole to mine & lots of others fell quite close. The sniper had been fairly successful, we passed 6 of his victims, they looked so peaceful & quiet in the moonlight.
