There is a plentiful supply in the wadi here, in fact all along it. This wadi Ghuzze runs into the sea near Gaza & finishes up away down below Beersheeba. In winter it becomes a raging torrent but in summer just a chain of water hiles.
Just where we have our H.Q.s is a hill that we use as an observation post all day. On top is the remains of an old Christian Church. The floor is of beautiful mozaic work & was covered by 3 or 4 feet of earth.
The designs were made of variegated coloured stone & consisted of a Leopard, Flamingo, Vase of Fruit, Serpent, Goat & Peacock. There was some Greek writing which several officers tried to translate without much success.
Since we have been up on this hill I think every General & Staff officer on the front has been to see it. The whole floor has since gone back to Australia in a cement casting.
May 4th
Bombed again this morning, 4 horses killed & 2 men killed. We have antics
