orders were only to hold the positions & not to attack.

I was with H.Q. & about a mile behind the line all day. They were shelling very constantly all day but did not do much damage around our quarters.

A Taube dropped a bomb about 50 yds away from where I was lying at the phone & burst about 5 yds away from the Brigadier & his staff (Col Cox) without hitting anyone. Just where we were - in a wadi was Bde H.Q.s, our led horses & the Field Ambulance. 

During the afternoon a battery of Horse Artillery (18 pdns) the Leicesters galloped into action just about 100 yds away from us on an open piece of ground. They were quickly spotted by a Taube who dropped a smoke ball over them & in about 2 minutes they were being heavily shelled by Turkish Field Artillery. The shells were falling very close to us at times, some hitting the bank we were lying under, some were going over us & some just in front
