The trams in Port Said are very much behind the time. They consist of only an old fashioned tram on rails drawn by 2 very insignificant donkeys.
Stayed the night at the New Khedival hotel & next afternoon went on to Alexandria by the 4.15 express. Arrived at Alex at 8 pm & stayed at the Windsor Hotel. It is the only English hotel in Alex is very nice & comfortable & costs 10/- per day. They are not allowed to charge soldiers more than 10/- per day by order of the Military Authorities & it is quite enough too.
22nd
Went out shopping today as I had quite a lot of things to get. Shopping done properly would take a considerable time. To get an article at anything like its proper value you would have to go to 2 or 3 shops & find which is the lowest in price. They all have their own prices for similar articles.
One of the chaps wanted a certain kind of mirror &
