Yesterday three lorries went over from here to the Anzac Divn Races at Rischon [Richon] about 8 miles away & I availed myself of the chance. We had a good afternoons sport, there being some splendid racing.

The best race of the day was the Steeplechase of about 2 miles which had a very large field. About 8 horses came down & several riders were injured. The race finally developed into a gruelling contest between two horses which kept together all the way until the last 100 yards or so when one sprinted in some lengths ahead of the other, which was done.

I backed the winner. I had 4 bets on the day & 3 of them were wins & 1 second, thus clearing £5.

I nearly missed the lorries coming home as I had to draw £3 on the last race & by the time I had drawn it, I had to run all the way to where the lorries had been left - about ½ a mile & when I got there they had gone. I went along the road a few hundred yards & found one stuck so that I did not have to walk after all.
