Arrived Fremantle 31st morning at 4 am. We did not go inside the port but lay out in the Gage Roads, as no troopships are allowed alongside the pier. The port authorities were greatly scared over the case of smallpox we had had & had the ship listed as quarantined days before we reached port & when we arrived the Port doctor examined every man on the ship.
We landed 80 West Australians who went into quarantine. Stayed in port all day leaving at 5.30 pm. We took some water, apples & fresh vegetables.
One of my mates has an uncle onshore & received a case of apples from him. Needless to say we appreciated these very much, the first we had tasted since leaving Australia in '16.
From the way we were received at Fremantle it seems as if the returning troops are welcome in one way they are a unwelcome in other. Because we
