at the foot of a bank. It was bitterly cold during the night & we were thankful that it did not rain which would have only added to our trouble.
Next day with the help of 100 men from the Essex Regt we managed to get the gun on to its wheels again & onto the road. It was undamaged luckily. The same night we went on & got all 4 guns into position before next morning.
Jerusalem was occupied on the 9th & now our troops are some miles beyond it.
We were paid in notes a few days ago but they are useless. As we cannot get any change & if you want to buy anything you have to get 50 PT worth & share it around among several others who do the same thing in turns.
What we mostly buy is Jewish bread which is brown in colour, very open texture & costing 1/- per 1lb loaf. Also we can buy oranges & Turkish tobacco which is not much chop as it is too green.
