The ship is under close quarantine & no one except the "heads" Captain, C.O. & Doctor have been allowed ashore.
The day coming into Colombo & the day in there were exceedingly hot & we had a couple of very heavy rain storms at night.
It was very hot indeed down below & sooner than sleep down below I walked about on deck half the night, until it cleared up & then slept on deck. The heat during these two days took a lot out of most of us.
We took about 1,600 tons of coal & 2 or 3 hundred tons of water. When we went into Colombo we were drawing 15' only at the bows & 17' coming out.
Left at 10.30 on 19th & as soon as we got out to sea & got a bit of a breeze it became much cooler. We were jolly glad to get out of Colombo & started on our journey again.
It is expected that it will take us just about 12 days to Fremantle as the coal we took on is not very good.
