25 of them 5.9" Hows which is a much higher number than we thought he had as he never used more than two or three on our sector, though he had any amount of them. Some of them are brand new - made at Krupps in 1917.

The flies are awfully bad up here - a hundred times worse than they used to be behind our own lines & we used to think them bad enough then. In some German & Turkish camps I have visited, in parts you could hardly see the ground for flies.

Fleas also are very numerous & you have only to step inside a native house & you yet covered with them.

On our way home from Kalkili (Kalkilieh], we stopped for shelter from the rain at an old Turkish telephone exchange & in a few minutes got covered with fleas. Since coming here we have been kept awake long hours at night by them.

Yesterday we sprinkled all our blankets & clothes with creosol, which effectively got rid of them.

Went through the town of Tul Keram yesterday but found it much the same as all such native places. Tis not quite as big as Ramleh.
