generally manages to get lost when going for rations & one night was going up to the front line for them until he was stopped. He was in the army 26 years & I reckon he is in his 2nd childhood. They bluff him at the dumps & whereas other people get break [bread] every day he brings back biscuits for this battery.
We went back 7 miles to Irgig [Irgeig] today & go the remaining 10 to-morrow.
We had our horses taken away from us on the 30th & so we refuse to walk the rest of the way. They left the guns at Irgig [Irgeig] for a well & we stayed with them & had a very easy time with nothing to do & heaps of water only ¼ mile away in the wadi.
On 19th the guns went down to Karm where the remainder of the 96th H.A.G. [Heavy Artillery Group] was concentrated. We went down but did not walk, as we rode on the waggons.
Had a good spell at Karm as there were any amount of canteen about & so we lived well for the 10 days
