Yesterday afternoon went to see the 7th Divn monthly race meeting. Managed to get a horse from the groom of the adjutant of 261 Bde RFA [Royal Field Artillery] (Jocks) & so rode over to the course about 3 miles over.
The races were very successful & well managed. The horses were nothing very extraordinary, there being only a few real good ones. There were 7 races in all there being plenty of entries & as many as a dozen or more starters in some races.
There were no bookies present, the totalisator being in vogue here. Considering the circumstances it was fairly successful. There was not a great deal of money about & as the favourites came in in most cases the dividends were not very high.
S Wootton was riding but had a day off today. He has been very successful however at recent meetings. I did a little betting losing £1 on the day.
