Just a few minutes walk from the School is the big internment camp containing some 7 or 8 thousand prisoners of war of which the greatest majority are Turks. There are however some Austrians, Germans & Bulgarians.
The prisoners look very [?] in their black woollen uniforms & red Fez caps & I don't think they would attempt to escape if given the chance even as they are so well treated. Tis a pity our prisoners are not treated as well in enemy countries.
We are about 7 miles from Cairo, the journey taking about 25 mins in one of the Electric railway cars or 10 mins by train from Helmiat stn. The fair [fare] on the tram is only ½ PT 2nd & 1 PT 1st Class.
Among the places that are very convenient for Soldiers are the Anzac Hostel & Esbekia Gardens. The former was the Bourse & is ideal for concerts & Picture shows etc, there being an entertainment
