we were at Karm. Received a big mail also at Karm the first we had had for almost 2 months.
29th
Got on the move again today our ultimate destination being Ramleh or Jaffa. We went across to Sheria & then along the Beersheeba [Beersheba] road to Gaza. Did not enter the town however but went a few miles in rear of it onto the main road going up the coast. The Turkish railway starts about 4 miles beyond Gaza & runs parl to ours, which is now 16 miles beyond Gaza. We travelled 7 miles the first day, 16 the 2nd, 6 on the 3rd day, 20 on the 4th.
Passing along the road is a never ceasing stream of motor lorries & light Ford cars, carrying up supplies etc.
There are villages every 4 or 5 miles along the road but are very dirty & squalid. Oranges are very plentiful now & cost 1 piastre for 6 = approx 3 for d. The country we are passing through is very level, rich & well cultivated.
