to go & visit the Holy City.

On first entering the city we secured the services of a Cook's guide to show us round for the day. This chap, an Assyrian, speaks about 6 languages & knew his job well.

We went to the Carlton Restaurant for dinner & had a 3 course meal for 15 PTS (3/-), consisting of Soup, Meat Pie (a few chips of potatoes, carrots & beans with some mince between two small pieces of pastry) & for dessert 2 small cakes with a fairly decent cup of tea to end up. One would not pay 6d for the same in Australia, but this was about as good a dinner as you could procure anywhere in the City.

After dinner we went for a stroll round the outer or New City till it was time to go into the Old City. There was not much to see except that there were some very fine buildings in the City the size & appearance of which rather surprised me.

Did not have time to got out to the Mount of Olives or to the Garden of Gethsemeneh [Gethsemane] though I would very much like to have done so.
