(2) Another method is to use a wheel (Horizontal) pivoted in the centre which is made to turn a wheel fitted with buckets on its rim, & fitted vertically against the other one. Pegs are used in place of cogs. As the Horizontal wheel is turned the pegs in it catch in those of the water wheel & thus turn it. As the wheel comes up & over the buckets empty into a trough. The flat wheel has an upright post about 3' high & from this a long pole about 12' long running out. A cow is hitched to this & made to walk around in a circle when it is required to raise the water.
