had ever been lost. There is an unlimited supply of water at Schenia [Sheria] which was a god send to us.
The infantry are now 7 miles beyond Sheria & the L Horse nearly 20 miles. The enemy is retreating very fast so that we cannot keep up with our heavy guns - on 9th we went through Sheria & camped about a mile beyond it & only a couple of hundred yards from a Turkish field battery which had been captured intact.
Had a good look round as there were any amount of stuff lying about a general dump in war. We are supposed to be here for 48 hours rest.
There are any amount of dead lying about & they are all swollen & black from the sun.
The battery near us had been taken at the point of the bayonet as the dead gunners were lying near the guns. They were mostly Austrians but some were Turks. 5 of them were still alive & had been laying there unattended for 3 days.
