but owing to her superior speed was able to escape after a long chase in which she maintained a speed of 20 knots for some time. It was afterwards found that this had some what strained her engines & whenever afterwards she got up to 16 or 17 knots she used to vibrate a gread deal & sometimes you could hardly stand on the focastle head for the vibration. She was Sunk the following July 25 by a mine off Gibraltar. I was very sorry indeed when I heard of her going down as I had had a really good time on her for 5 weeks. The food on board was good but we did not fully appreciate it at the time & used to grumble some what. Many & many a time afterwards out on the desert I would have thought the same food luxurious. Still we never seem to know when we are well off & only appreciate
