At Colombo we lost the Nurses & Wireless who were bound for Mesopotamia.

I had a swim around the ship one morning in company with some others but we were promptly ordered out on account of sharks which however go out to sea in the day time & come in to feed at night.

After leaving Colombo we struck out in a N.W. direction for Aden. Had head winds & choppy seas until we struck the Gulf of Aden about a days sail from Aden.

We did not keep on the main trade route but took an unusual course. It took us almost 7 days to reach Aden, which is a couple of days over the scheduled time. The reason of the delay was that the boat from Bombay which was to meet us at Aden broke down & so we reduced speed to 12 knots so as not to get
