Some days ago several of us put in for 3 days leave to go to Jerusalem but were turned down.
Today however a party of 24 of us went up in a lorry. Left at 8 am arriving in Jerusalem about 10.30. The first 6 or 7 miles to Latron was fairly level going but after passing Latron we began to climb & practically continued to do so all the way to Jerusalem.
At some places there were some careful manipulation. The road all the way was splendid & very free from dust owing to rain during the past few days. All the main roads of this country are splendid ones, much better than any we have in Australia, over such distance & under such conditions of rainfall etc.
These roads have to be built up in places & are just wide enough for 2 lorries to pass comfortably. The country we passed through was very bare & except for olive trees in places, there was no vegetation evident.
