bombs which we could see bursting.
Saw Jack Finn last night & had a long yarn to him. He is camped at Railhead which was shelled today by a Turkish high velocity gun. There were about 40 casualties.
Intended going to see Jack on Monday evening 17th but we left after tea for Shellal [El Shellal]. The whole Division went out. Travelled all night & got to our destination just before day light next morning.
While watering in the wadi a Taube came over & bombed us, killing about 5 & wounding 20. I saw the bombs burst about 300 yds away.
The Anzac Div consists of 1st & 2nd L.H. Bdes & N.Z.M.R.Bde, & 22nd Mtd Bde.
Went out same night about 8.30 & after travelling all night got into position next morning at day break at a place called Erk [Wady Khurbet Erk] & went into action just about sunrise on a line of ridges which we held all day. We could have advanced but our
