supposed to be very strongly fortified.
This was an exceedingly favourable time for me to join the regiment as I had a month wherein to get used to the way of things while the regt is resting, before we start the actual campaigning again.
Moved over to another Hod. - Hod el Geeila, a distance of 7 miles, on 13th & on 17th we set out for El Arish.
Set out on 17th en route to El Arish, following the old caravan route across the desert that has been in use for hundreds & hundreds of years. Only did 15 miles today & camped at a place called Tillul. Next day was only a short stunt - 8 miles to a place called Mazar which we reached by dinner time.
Set out next morning for Bardawal or Kilo 143 still following the old track & incidentilly the railway line. Arrived at 3 pm distance being 15 miles.
Travelled very quick today as we were going over a continuation of a dried salt lakes most of the way. The railway line is not very
