¼ of a mile from the shore. In rough weather ships would have to put out to sea I should think.

There are only a few decent buildings including the Town Hall & a couple of buildings now being used as hospitals. Visited a nice but small Catholic Church in the town the first church I have been in this side of the Suez Canal.

Quite a big part of the town is out of bounds to troops but I did not let that hinder me from seeing anything. A Light Railway runs from the landing place through some of the streets & thence on right up to the front here doing a good deal of useful work & saving a lot of motor convoys up this way.

Learnt from some men of the Camel Corps that that body has been disbanded & converted into a new Bde of L Horse & to be armed with swords in addition to their rifles & bayonets.
