water, kept there by bamboo rods. The nets were placed in form of a circle inside which were the boats. The natives reckoned that by making such a row they would cause the fish to jump out of the water & so get caught in the nets if they failed to clear them.
Evidently they must have some success at this method or they would not use it. The fish caught this way were mostly mullet which do a lot of jumping.
21st El Arish was occupied yesterday without opposition.
22nd At Magdahlia - 30 miles up the El Arish wadi the Des Mtd Corps wiped out a post of 2,000 men taking 1,350 of them prisoners with only 136 casualties on our side.
Had sports on Boxing Day consisting of Athletic & Horse events. Came 4th in the 880 yards - the first one I had ever run in & our Regt came 2nd in Relay race.
