25th
Xmas day was the most miserable one that it has so far been my lot to experience. It rained all day practically & was very cold besides & we have had no mail since leaving Karm. Had bully & biscuits for dinner today.
27th
It fined up yesterday so we got a chance to dry our clothes & blankets etc & do some much needed washing.
Rations are very short now owing to the railway line having been washed away & to the transport difficulties. The roads from here into Ludd are simply quagmires & the waggons have great difficulty in getting through it.
The roads can not really be called such as they are just tracks across ploughed land which is very soft & of a clay nature. It retains the water which gathers in great pools.
About 15 men slept in our cave last night but it was too many as there is no ventilation in
