for everyman & also hooks on which to suspend our hammocks at night. On the floor were tables with forms, all fastened securely down, each table holding 14 men, 7 on either side. Underneath the table & running throughout its entire length was a broad wooden plank which was used as a receptacle for our plates & crockery etc. Each table was supplied with a bucket for drawing tea, while there were two big dishes for meat & vegetables (tin) & one for pudding. In addition there were 2 enamel plates per man & a knife, fork & spoon each. To get upon deck we had a ladder up the hatchway onto the "well" deck between the focastle head & the bridge.
