Dec 26th
The 23rd was a wet day so the sports were postponed until Saturday 28th. Xmas day was fine however & today though overcast all day, has been fine. For past two days the men have been having a wild & woolly time indeed. Nearly the whole squadron was drunk yesterday & last night, as unlimited quantities of beer (Bass) & wine (Richon) were obtainable, beer at 9PT per bottle & wine 12PT.
We had our Xmas dinner at 6 pm & it was a fine one too, & the cook must have put in a lot of work to prepare such a blow out. His efforts did not go unappreciated however, as the mess thanked him & drank his health etc.
The menu consisted of Soup Tomato, Roast Meat with 3 vegetables, Plum Pudding, Jelly & Custard.
The Concert at night was very good but was somewhat marred by the objectionable remarks & behaviour of some of the men in the audience who were drunk. The Concert was very well got up & must have required a
