Quite a number of chaps got hoplessly drunk to celebrate the last port of call in Australia which a lot of us were destined never to see again.

Fremantle seemed a very uninteresting place indeed. We sailed at midnight of 28th & next morning were well out of sight of land, & for the next 9 days did not see a boat of any description ot even any land till we reached Colombo.

The weather was very hot going across the Indian Ocean, which was very calm all the way across. We slept up on deck at night after leaving Fremantle as it was almost unbearable at night down below. Our dress from now on was dungarees converted into shorts. shoes & singlets. For duty we did half an hours physical "jerks" every day & guard on the gangway about
