Went on to Port Said by midday train as I wanted to see Dr Wood at the 14th A.G.H. When I arrived there I found that he had not been to the hospital at all.
Had a look round the harbour at the shipping etc, went on board a French torpedo boat & had a look round. They are exceedingly small things of about only 100 tons & I would not like to go to sea in one for anything.
Almost all the ships were painted with broad stripes along the sides which rendered them almost invisible a[t] a few miles distance.
We had a sail for a while in a small yacht & went out to visit [Ferdinand] De Lesseps Statue. Saw several of our submarine chasers in harbour. They are very fast motor boats mounting a small quick firer in front. They only have a crew of 2 officers & 6 men.
Port Said is a very dirty, dusty, uninteresting place with practically nothing to see excepting the shipping. Went to Cairo by the evening express 6.30 & got there at 11 pm.
