the streets are much wider than those of Sydney & are laid out on a better principle - the Block System. Were not allowed ashore next day for some reason unknown. Towards sailing time a bitterly cold wind sprang up accompanied by rain which however did not prevent quite a large crowd assembling to see the boat off. At Melbourne we took on board some Wireless, Engineers & 50 nurses bound for Mesopotamia. Cleared the Rip just after dark & it was rather interesting to watch the searchlight from Queenscliff sweeping the sea sometimes lighting up the ship & sometimes on to the Pilot boat which accompanied us out to sea for some miles.
Had an uneventful trip to Adelaide except for some cases of seasickness when we ran into a slight swell. Arrived at Adelaide on morning
