that pushed back the 7th Regt on our right.
The attack over Gaza way had not done well at all & at 3 pm the Turks counter attacked all along the line. Our casualties today all told were about 14,000. This could not be called a victory by any means & was a very servere knock back.
We travelled all night & just about daylight reached a position where I had been on outpost some days previous to the scrap, which was only 5 miles from Erk yet it took us all night to go there. We then turned in for a few hours much needed sleep as we had had none for 3 nights.
We were awakened at 8 am however & told to be ready to move in 15 min. Got saddled up & on the move & about 9 oclock as we were travelling along in close formation a Taube came along. As soon as he spotted us he turned & went home. About half an hour later 4 more came up one behind the other & dropped 16 bombs on us.
