(2nd & 11th L.H.) & a few engineers & Wireless Squadronmen. There was a huge crowd on the wharf & an hour before the ship left there were hundreds of streamers out from ship to shore. Perhaps if I had any friends there I might have felt the departure more keenly than I did which was keenly enough but at the same time I did not like the thought of sailing with even a soul I knew to wish me Godspeed & without saying good bye to anyone. At last 12 oclock came & as the ship slowly drew away from the wharf under the influence of a couple of powerful tugs the streamers began to break slowly at first but quicker & quicker as we got further out until there were only a few long ones left & when these finally snapped there was great cheering both from the wharf & from the boat. Once out from the wharf we swung round facing
