I was sending a message on the helio at the time & did not notice anything until they were all gone. The chap who had our horse did not stay with them, but cleared out. We had all our gear off our horses, including the packhorse & were just having breakfast when they started.
We got away eventually & I handed the message in when I got in to H.Q's, as I did not finish sending it. I did not get any breakfast however.
When our men left the hill the enemy lengthened his range & got onto the Sqdn as they were going back across the plain to H.Q. They had a couple of men killed, 2 wounded & some horses killed.
We brought home about 20 Bedouins who had been firing on us. They were armed with Turkish Rifles of new pattern (1916).
We travelled about 50 miles on this stunt but it was worse than that of May 22nd owing to the heat & because we had no water & I had nothing to eat all day.
