[Page 83]

We adopt a new formation when camped now (3 Sqdns) being in the shape of a hollow square, a squadron forming a side of it & HQ's & Sigs etc the remaining side of it, there being 3 squadrons in the Regiment. This formation presents an exceedingly small target to the Hun planes & tis a mere fluke if he does any damage,

30th

We are in some redoubt at present X, Y & Z covering the extreme right flank of our line. The redoubts are about ¾ of a mile apart & at the rear of them we have the horse lines.

Tis 3 miles from here to water in the wadi which is too far to go down & back twice a day so when the horses go down in the morning one man to 3 horses, the men take their dinner & after watering go out beyond the wadi grazing on the plain until about 2.30 when they come back & water.

There are 4 sigs here so that we only have to go down every fourth day, as one man takes our 4 horses.

We are to occupy these redoubts for a week at the end of which we will be relieved by another Regiment.
