per truck. This is the hottest period of the year & as we are pretty soft after coming out of hospital we feel the heat.
When we got to Rafa at 10 am next morning we had to march about 2 miles through heavy sand to a rest camp. We were just like wet socks when we got there & completely knocked up. We have to stay here 24 hours & go back to the regiment tomorrow.
Had a good nights rest after the weary train journey & next morning marched back to the Station with our kit up & 120 rounds of ammunition.
It was the hotest part of the day & we were wringing wet when we got to the Station. Got a train out to Shellal at dinner time & there we were met by men from the Rgt with horses which was camped about 5 miles away.
They have been having a very rough time out here lately & I am not sorry to have missed it.
Ex Capt Downs who was at Menangle in my time is over now & came out to join the 7th Regt today as a trooper as he could not come away with a commission.
