out here now which do some good shooting at times & keep the Huns well up at least.

May 7th

Huns made a moonlight raid last night, dropping about 40 bombs on a Hospital & Railhead. Their object was our aerodrome which they missed & got the hospital instead. There were about 40 casualties.

Next night they repeated the performance & 1 bomb alone killed & wounded 70 infantry. Same night one came along our way machine gunning our chaps who were digging trenches.

Today a Taube tackled 3 of our machines just out in front of us. One cleared off, one was brought down with a couple of bullets in his engine & a very light on fire. The pilot was burned badly but the machine was allright. The other machine hovered down low under cover of our machine guns, while the Hun circled above waiting for our machines to go up higher & yet afraid to come down on account of our machine guns. The machine was brought in during the night.
