to get into decent cultivated country & the going was much easier than further down the line. Saw plenty of small patches of cultivated land, some sown with bailey.
Left again next morning at 8.30 & just as we were moving out a Taube came over head flying low. We scattered but he did not drop any bombs. All the morning we travelled through good grazing country with plenty of crops about.
Crossed the Border into Palestine at 11.30 just near Rafa. Rode across the battle field which was now covered with crops which the Bedouins were harvesting. Halted at midday for lunch - our first meal in the land flowing with milk & honey which it certainly seems after the sand. Our horses appreciated the green crops very much as it was many a long day since they had had any.
