of some sort every night. Also there are Billiard Tables, writing & reading room, Restaurant & Bed Rooms. The Tariff is very moderate & a good meal can be obtained for 7 PT.

The leading Hotels, Sheperds, The Grand Continental & the National, are fine places but the 2 former ones are out of bounds to all troops except officers.

The pyramids can be seen quite plainly from the School - a distance of easily 15 miles. From Cairo out is an hours journey by tram costing only 1 PT which is about the cheapest tram ride that I have have yet had.

All the way out & running par'l to the tramline is a fine hard metal road shaded by big trees growing on either side. This road was built by Napoleon & along this the Society of Cairo goes for its evening Constitutional drive etc.
