At the top of the hill is the Jewish village of Zimmeran [?]. From here one can get a fine view of the surrounding country overlooking the Plain of Sharon for miles & miles to the south, on the west of the sea being only a couple of miles away.

We are camped at the foot of the Hills just beyond the village but still in the Pass. The country around here is very nice indeed there being any amount of olive orchards about & mimosa hedges along the road sides are out in bloom.

7th

Yesterday we left Zimmeran at 4 am travelled about 10 miles & camped at a place called Atlit on the beach. From here the road runs within a couple of hundred yards of the sea all the way to Haifa.

Atlit is only represented by the ruins of an ancient palace which has evidently been a beautiful place in its time. The buildings covers an area of about 2 acres & some parts are in a fair state of preservation, one part in particular is a section of a wall standing about 50' high, about
