Next morning set out about 7 oclock for the battery & on the way out watched our barrage being put on a big hill they wanted to take. This is called Medjel Yaba [Mejdel Yaba].
We got into the aerodrome about 30 miles down the line, at 4 pm, having done the last 16 miles with a broken spring (we were in a Ford car).
Next day heard at the 'Drome that the stunt had been very successful - 400 prisoners taken. Some machine guns & an advance of 3 miles on 11 mile frontage.
We buried 400 Turkish dead & yet only sustained about 2 casualties ourselves, due to the artillery fire which was very heavy.
I expect to be in here for some days before going on leave as there are 2 away at present.
19th Mar
Left Medjel [Mejdel] Stn (near the drome) on night train arriving at Kantara next morning. Slept in open truck but had a fair amount of room.
